The Object and Word Learning Lab at the University of Miami

The Object and Word Learning Lab at the University of Miami under the direction of Dr. Lynn Perry ( seeks a full-time Lab Manager with a start date of Summer 2016. The appointment requires a 2-year commitment, with the possibility of renewal.

The lab manager will assist in research on word learning, categorization, and the role of language in cognition and perception involving participants from toddlers to adults. Future research projects will involve studies of monolingual English, monolingual Spanish, and bilingual English/Spanish speaking participants. The lab uses a variety of methods including behavioral experiments, eye-tracking, naturalistic interaction, corpus analyses, and online experiments.



Responsibilities include:


Recruitment of infant, child, and adult participants

Behavioral data collection


Data processing and statistical analyses using software such as R

Training and managing of undergraduate students

General administrative duties (including IRB protocols)


Required Qualifications:

BA/BS in Psychology, Cognitive Science, or related field (e.g., linguistics)

Previous research experience, preferably with children

Fluency in both English and Spanish

Strong interpersonal, organizational, computational, problem-solving, and analytic skills

Ability to work independently

Excellent attention to detail


Preferred Qualifications:

Experience running eye-tracking studies

Experience running studies on Amazon Mechanical Turk

Technical skills, such as experience using R, Photoshop, E-Prime, Experiment builder, Python
