Gopnik Cognitive Development Lab at UC Berkeley

The Gopnik Cognitive Development Lab at UC Berkeley, directed by Dr. Alison Gopnik, is excited to welcome applications for a lab manager position. This position will start in summer 2016 (likely on June 1st).


The lab studies the development of causal learning from toddlerhood into the adult years, with most projects investigating the skills of preschool-aged children. Studies generally utilize behavioral methodologies, but online experiments with adults are also common. The lab manager will have opportunities to be involved in all stages of research, from piloting and creating stimuli, to recruiting and running participants, to data analysis. The lab manager will also be responsible for enabling the efficient running of the lab, completing tasks such as: amending and managing the PIs protocols, maintaining and establishing relationships with research sites, and training undergraduate research assistants.


The lab manager will report to the lab Principal Investigator (Dr. Alison Gopnik), and will interact with other faculty members, students (both graduate and undergraduate), postdoctoral scholars, and other lab members. The incumbent will need to interact and communicate effectively with members of the laboratory, parents, preschool administrators and teachers, and museum administrators. The successful candidate will be very detail-oriented, organized, independent, and enthusiastic about cognitive development research. This position is ideal for someone who is interested in pursuing a PhD in cognitive development.


***Required qualifications***


-       A Bachelors degree or equivalent in Psychology, Cognitive Science, or related fields is required.

-       Significant prior research experience (preferably with children)


***Preferred qualifications***


-       Experience running studies on Amazon Mechanical Turk.

-       Experience with statistical software/analyzing data.

-       Experience with human subjects protocol amendments.


Pending administrative approval, a one-year 75% time (30 hrs/week) appointment is available starting in Summer 2016, with a possibility of renewal contingent upon performance.
