A new clinical science laboratory at the University of Rochester, directed by Professor Cassie Glenn, is seeking a full-time Lab Manager to coordinate a series of projects aimed at understanding why people engage in behaviors that are intentionally harmful to themselves (e.g., nonsuicidal self-injury and suicidal behavior). The Lab Manager will gain experience with all aspects of the research process, which could serve as a launch pad to graduate studies. The Lab Manager will have opportunities to present data at national psychology conferences and to assist with manuscript preparation. Start date is September 1, 2015 and a two-year commitment is strongly preferred.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating data collection using interview, behavioral, and psychophysiological techniques

  • Management of multiple large datasets

  • Participant recruitment and screening

  • Data analysis and manuscript preparation

  • Grants management

  • General administrative duties to maintain the workings of the lab

    The following skills are required:

  • Background in psychology or a related field (B.A., B.S., or equivalent)

  • Previous research experience (at least 1-2 years)

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Strong communication skills to maintain excellent rapport with adolescents and their families

  • Must demonstrate the ability to work independently

  • Experience with Word, Excel, Google docs/calendar

  • Schedule flexibility: Because this research involves the participation of adolescents, hours will vary week-to-week and will sometimes include evenings and weekends

    The following skills will confer an advantage, but are not necessary to receive consideration:

  • Previous experience working with adolescents and their families in experimental or clinical settings

  • Clinical interviewing

  • Data acquisition and analysis using peripheral psychophysiology (in particular, facial

    electromyography), eye tracking, and/or MRI methods

  • Preparing and maintaining IRB protocols

  • Grants management

  • Familiarity with programming (e.g., Psychopy) and statistical packages (SPSS)
