The University of Potsdam (Germany) will be accepting applications at the Faculty of Human Sciences, Research Focus Cognitive Sciences for a

W1-Junior Professorship for Developmental Psycholinguistics
(Tenure Track, salary category W1) to be appointed from April 1, 2017.

Applicants should demonstrate an excellent background in experimental
research on early language acquisition (especially in the domains of phonology, syntax or lexicon) that is evidenced by internationally visible publications. Experience with the application of neurocognitive research methods and expertise in the variability of developmental trajectories is desired. The readiness for collaboration in existing research projects on early language acquisition and its impairments and for independent grant applications as part of coordinated research proposals are expected.
Furthermore, it is expected that the applicant will contribute to the activities of the University Research Focus Cognitive Sciences. The position requires teaching in Bachelor and Master Programmes offered by the Linguistics Department. Very good command of the English language is a prerequisite for the position, experience with international cooperation and the acquisition of third-party funding are desired.

According to State law (§ 45 Brandenburgisches Hochschulgesetz - BbgHG), preconditions for the appointment as a Junior Professor include a completed university education, teaching skills, and a special qualification for academic work, which is usually demonstrated through an outstanding PhD thesis. International experience, an outstanding publication record and a teaching record are advantageous. The total time for completion of the PhD and subsequent post-doc employment should not have exceeded six years.

Appointment will be made according to §§ 40 and 46 BbgHG. The appointment as a civil servant or a public employee will be made for up to four years in the first instance and can be extended to up to 6 years in total, conditional upon a positive evaluation. There is the opportunity to be taken on for a permanent professorship (tenure track option) following positive evaluation. The hiring process is subject to the requirements set forth in section 45 of the Brandenburg Higher Education Act for tenured professors only.
