The Department of Child, Family, and Consumer Sciences at California State University, Fresno seeks applicants for a tenure-track, academic year position as an Assistant Professor in Family Science. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate
students, conduct scholarly and applied research, advise students, participate in outcomes assessment, and engage in service-related activities. Primary teaching responsibilities and research interests will be in the areas of family relationships, human development,
intimacy, parent education, family theory, and family life education.


The Department of Child, Family, and Consumer Sciences is situated in the Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (JCAST) at Fresno State. The Family Science degree offering overlaps significantly with the Child Development degree offering, and
most faculty teach in both areas. A JCAST Honors Program is available for top students. Graduates generally pursue careers in early childhood education, family life education or social services, or they continue in school toward a teaching credential, a master’s in
counseling, or graduate school in human development.


An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Family Science, Human Development and Family Studies, Family Sociology, Psychology, or other closely-related discipline from an accredited institution (or equivalent) is required; however, applicants nearing completion of the
doctorate (ABD) may be considered. For appointment, the doctorate must be completed by the date of appointment (8/15/2016). Required Experience: 1) Teaching or teaching assistant experience at the undergraduate level; 2) Evidence of scholarly activity including scientific
presentations or publications in scholarly journals, and; 3) Ability to demonstrate a commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Preferred Qualifications: Certification as a Family Life Educator is preferred.
