The Infant Action and Cognition Lab at StFX is a state-of-the art research facility using eyetracking, motion-capture system, and video equipment to examine the impact of motor development on processes determining early cognitive development. Current research projects focus on several key elements of social, emotional, and cognitive development during early childhood. The position will be available for two years with a possibility of renewal. The anticipated starting date is July 2016.
This project will evaluate the impact of motor experience on object exploration, motor competence, and action understanding. The Postdoctoral Fellow will assist the project through design and execution of novel studies. Primary responsibilities will include the initiation of new research projects on the interrelation of motor development and cognitive development matching the principle research focus of the lab, participating in on-going research projects, preparation of journal manuscripts, undergraduate student mentorship and other research related duties as assigned.
PhD graduates from Psychology or related fields with an excellent background in developmental psychology are encouraged to apply, as are students close to completing their PhD (please note the anticipated date of dissertation completion). Candidates should be self-motivated and have sound training in experimental research methods and data analysis. Some of the following skills would be beneficial: programming background, experience with eye tracking methods and data analyses, and collection and analysis of locomotor data.
To apply, please email a CV, statement of research interest and relevant background, as well as three letters of recommendation to Petra Hauf (firstname.lastname@example.org). The review of applications will begin on May 02, 2016 and will continue until this position is filled.
