Postdoctoral research position in mitochondrial biology and stress pathophysiology

We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral candidate with an interest in mitochondrial biology and stress research. The Picard Laboratory aims to understand the cellular mechanisms by which psychosocial and metabolic stressors impact cellular bioenergetics, epigenetics and gene expression, with a focus on mitochondria. Chronic stress can lead to Mitochondrial Allostatic Load (PMID:24663223) and premature aging. The group¹s interdisciplinary research program builds upon recent discoveries demonstrating that mitochondria i) sense, ii) integrate and iii) transduce environmental stressors to impact the stress response and disease susceptibility. We tackle questions relevant to mitochondrial medicine and psychosomatic research through projects employing human, mouse, and in vitro models. Lab techniques include a battery of assays to quantify specific mitochondrial functions, metabolomics, transcriptomics (RNA-Seq), mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) work, qRT-PCR, bioinformatics, live-cell imaging and quantitative electron microscopy. Lab projects are enhanced by a solid group of international collaborators.

An attractive candidate will have an established proficiency in cell biology or physiology, computational biology or related approaches, be familiar with the field of mitochondrial research, must be fluent in English, with excellent oral and written communication abilities and skills, and a good publication record. Candidates interested to join the group should send a CV, brief summary of research experience and interests, and the names of three references electronically in PDF format to Martin Picard : mp3484@cumc.columbia.edu. Columbia University is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer. Women and members of under-represented minority groups are especially encouraged to apply.
